I've had problems w/ incompetent dealer mechanics, too.  My dealer here
(Plaza Motors, St. Louis) is excellent, and $proud of their work.  They
weren't always this good, but the Audi techs have been with them for
years now, and they really know the cars.  Methinks one of the marks of
a good shop (dealer or independent) is low employee turnover.

BTW, I wouldn't have trusted the tire shop to do anything other than
_tires_.
