Yup, sure did, but maybe you're on the right track. Suppose there's an air
leak into the return side of the system, assuming for the moment that the
local fluid velocity is high enough to depress the static pressure below
atmosphere. Then slugs of air entering the pump inlet might cause the shimmy.
