I picked up an AEG dishwasher in Germany the same way.  After about six 
months' use it failed - a seal went, and water dripped onto the motor.  I 
called the AEG engineer to see if there was anything he could do.
 
"This is _our_ fault," was his reply, "and we'll refurbish this unit at the 
factory."
