tri-electrode spark plugs

Hi all.  Quick question:

When adjusting the gap on tri-electrode spark plugs, if the gap is supposed
to be 0.030 inches does this mean 0.030 inches between the source and each
ground electrode...or 0.010 (0.030 inches / 3 electrodes) at each gap?  I'm
assuming the former...but have been told the latter is correct.  What gives?
