Euro lights for 4000/coupe/UrQ

I recently did a bit of research into the lighting issue for my
1983 UrQ. What I found out, as a number of you have
posted, is that there are a number of different combos for the
4000 style cars.

1)USA DOT lights - evil unless converted to an H4/H1
combination that replaces the sealed unit but doesn't alter
the appearance. Excellent low cost alternatve to the euros.

2)Hella and Bosch H4 units used on early 4000's in europe
These don't include clear side marker lights with the
lights. They are pictured in the front of the Haynes 4000
manual.

3)Later Hella single H4's that include the side marker light
and work with the early vertical or flat grille style. These
lights I believe were used on 83-85 coupes and UrQ's. Not
100% sure. TAP sells these for approx $350.

4)Hella and Cibie aero euro lights used on later european
coupes, 4000's (80's), and the later UrQ's. The Cibies are
unavailable here in the US I discovered. These are the lights I
went with after biting the bullet of cost. The cheapest place,
after consulting many vendors in US, Canada, and the UK
was, believe it or not, TAP. Although one of the bulbs was
not working right from the start. In typical TAP fashion they
passed the problem on to Puma racing, their supplier, who
overnighted me new bulbs at no cost. They said they
sometimes sell to the public. They were very helpful and I
would recommend giving them a try for these lights. Cost of
these lights approx $600 for a set. Puma's number is
1-800-333-7862. Remember that if you don't have the sloping
grille and associated trim from a later model 4000/coupe you
will need to get this to do the upgrade. The difference in
appearance and lighting is amazing.
