I just came across this message ... although it is not quattro related
I'd think that such a major automotive announcement would be of interest
to the list ...

Hiroshima:
Mazda announced today that they are immediately canceling the Rotary engine.
All products using the rotary will also be canceled. Other products affected
include parts for the rotary, the Rx7, the Cosmo, the RX-01 and the Miata
which has suffered slow sales. The RX-01 will be salvaged as the new corporate
flagship, the DX-01. The DX-01 luxury class car will be powered by a 7 valve
diesel engine. 0-60 performance promises to be in the sub-sonic range.
Redwood City:
In a special meeting of the Bay Area Rx7 Board early this morning, a
decision has been made to dissolve the club. Reasons leading to this
decision were primarily the results of Saturday's Safety Skills School at
Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma. Seventy-seven Rx7s were seriously smashed
during the Safety Skills School. The dilemma of how to deal with the large
amount of money in the club account was solved with a unanimous decision by
the board to send the entire board on a 1 week vacation to Hawaii. It was
also announced at the special meeting that a group auto purchase had been
arranged since so many people were now in need a new car. Those interested
in the group purchase of a '97 Special Edition Geo EV by Black and Decker
should send their deposit checks directly to the board. The board members
assured us that they will not profit by this deal.

PS - I think he could have fished people in longer if he left out the
sub-sonic reference ...
