10v vs. 20v
Thanks, Bruce. Since our 4000csq is still running extremely well at 162k miles, I'm inclined to agree with you that at 100k miles a well-maintained 5 cyl. 2.2 is just coming into its own.

Many smart people on the list---I am but a village idiot in
comparison:) Hopefully, someone that has owned both can detail the
advantages of the 10vt v. 20vt. I have no experience with the 20vt.
I think any motor that has been taken care of, and I mean really
taken care of, in an Audi with 100,000 miles is really just coming into
its own. While I did not tear my motor down [yet], it has 133,000, and
is very tight compression-wise. Obviously, it would be preferable IMHO
to have a nearly new motor, but I don't believe the cost equals the
benefit--unless you are talking a race motor, which I am not. Ultra high
boost is a potential problem in any turbo motor. In fact, a number of
race Porsches run stock boost, but get big every where else.
Find you a nice tq and take the plunge. I've had more fun than
sorrow so far:)

Have had terrific reliability from my wife's '87 4000csq (purchased new, now has 162k miles), and plan (soon) to buy a used 10 or 20v turbo quattro for my own daily use. Probably will make several of the performance upgrades you detailed. Given that, which is likely to be more reliable -- a 10v or 20v TQ? Am I asking for trouble if increase boost on TQ with 100k miles if the engine has been properly maintained. I'd appreciate hearing from you or anyone else out there, since my only Audi experience to date (it's been a splendid 10 years!) has been with the normally aspirated 2.2 5cyl.
