Rob, you are ALMOST there. After the rear headrests come out, you
must remove the plastic fittings into which the metal headrest shafts
slide. These plastic fittings retain the seat back. They do have a
built-in catch holding them in place, so you cannot just pull upwards.
To remove them, go into the trunk and peel the carpet down slightly
at the points where the headrests mount. You should see some square
holes in the metal bulkhead. Take a big screwdriver and press inward
while prying upwards as the base of the fittings, which are actually
about 3 inches long. This will release the catch (kind of a barb at
the base of the fitting) and they will push upwards an inch or so.
That's enough that you cn go back around to the interior and pull
them up and out. THEN the seat back will slide upwards and come out.
Re-installation of the fittings is just pressing them downward
firmly. They lock into place.
ALSO - you may find the rear deck speakers are somewhat in the way,
but it is possible to pry around them and get at the catches.
