Re: Murphy Was: Intro comments

In a message dated 97-04-04 13:06:43 EST, you write:

<< The 4000Q has 138k on it now
and I've never changed the timing belt or clutch. After much discussion in
the Quattro Club, it seems sort of a concensus that the belts on the 5
cylinders don't need to be changed, >>

"..When the belt breaks,
  the RPM will fall,
  bringing down engine,
  Holiday plans et all..."

Do you believe in Murphy ???

The point I would put on the table is that although
collateral damage usually only occurs on the turbo
version of the 5cyl, when it brakes all the RPM
leaks out and leaves a big puddle of headache on
the ground.

It's like tonados that seek out trailer parks as targets
of oppotunity... If the belt breaks at 139,000 miles it
will be the eve (oh, about 17:30) of Memorial Day
weekend, halfway between the Walt Whitman Bridge
and the Williamstown exit on the North-South freeway.
( in the center lane ).

If you are not familiar with the Philadelphia PA
metro region let me explain it thus-ly...

"Hell hath no fury as a shore traveler with a horn".
