ur-q/Coupe Window Trom Removal
Okay so no one posted how to remove the external door trim on an ur-q,
maybe it's too obvious? Anyway here's how I did it:-
Remove inside door trim (this is fairly standard stuff and anyone
who's owned a Coupe (or an ur-q) has probably removed this more than
once (well if they've owned the car longer than a month...)
1) Remove the two screws holding on the arm rest. Pry off the electric
window unit and unplug electrical connectors. Turn arm rest through
~65.3 degrees and pull out.
2) Pry out the cup on the door release mechanism, remove screw and
washer, pull off the rest of the surround.
3) Remove little round plastic cover (if it's not already missing) on
the inside opposite the mirror. Remove screw and triangular piece of
plastic trim. Remove screw under panel, this is often unecessary as
the metal tab has already broken off the door panel.
4) Unscrew door knob.
5) On earlier cars the entire panel is just press fitted. So insert
wide flat blade screw driver to pry the panel off. Makes a kind of
neat popping sound. On later cars there are a bunch of screws around
the base and sides of the compartement at the bottom of the door, So
take your time and watch for hidden screws.
Outside Window Trim Removal
1) Unscrew the two round plastic fasteners at either end of the bottom
horizontal piece of trim. One is accessed from below the mirror
compartement and the other by a hole near the door knob.
2) On the outside of the door, pry up the front edge of the bottom
horizontal piece of trim and slide off forward.
3) Slide off the bottom horizontal piece of trim towards to the back
of the car. The Bentley advises using a pastic wedge, on my car it
slid off towards the back fine, YMMV.
4) Carefully pry up the piece of trim the runs from the bottom front
corner up the front edge and across the top of the window. I used a
wide bladed screw driver, stop when you get to where it starts running
along the top.
5) Pry off the vertical strip at the rear, keep easing down on the
strip and it will slip out of the top piece where it meets in the
corner.
6) Now pry off the rest of the piece in 4).
7) To remove the horizontal felt trim beside the window. Turn the
plastic clips through 90 degrees and pull out.
I only broke one plastic clip along the bottom of the window, I can
see how it is easy to break many more.
