Them clutch masters ...
Well, I was attempting to replace the clutch master cylinder on the '87 5kq,
and I got stopped by the inability to access the top screw due to interfer-
ence with the body of the MC. When I did this on the '88 I was able to get
a ball-tip hex wrench in and provide the torque needed to break the screw loose.
This time no go ... the wrench hasn't exactly rounded the hole in the tip, but
it will no longer sit in the hole without walking out. I also tried grabbing
the outside of the socket cap screw with a pair of vise grips ... no go. I am
looking for suggestions for other means to get that screw out ... TIA!
I did notice an interesting characteristic about the replacement ... the loca-
tion of the fluid inlet port was moved so that it no longer lined up with the
top screw! I guess Audi did learn of the problem over time. When I get the
old one out I'll compare the numbers on the castings and post that to the list ...
