Them clutch masters ...

Subject: Them clutch masters ...
Well, I was attempting to replace the clutch master cylinder on the '87 5kq,
and I got stopped by the inability to access the top screw due to interfer-
ence with the body of the MC. When I did this on the '88 I was able to get
a ball-tip hex wrench in and provide the torque needed to break the screw loose.
This time no go ... the wrench hasn't exactly rounded the hole in the tip, but
it will no longer sit in the hole without walking out. I also tried grabbing
the outside of the socket cap screw with a pair of vise grips ... no go. I am
looking for suggestions for other means to get that screw out ... TIA!
Funny you should ask - did this Sunday! One and a half times: Remove M/C
from parts car, remove M/C from driver car, install pre-rebuilt M/C from
parts car into driver car.
Had to take a hex wrench and cut off the short end - those things are HARD
and TOUGH - got to cut off enough so it fits, but not so much that the
curved part of the hex wrench starts to seat into the bolt (use the one bolt
you have out as a guide) - touch the edges of the cut with a grinding wheel
to bevel them slightly, and it works just fine! Presto, genuine Audi tool
#blah blah blah, costs about a buck vs. OEM price of $10,0000000,000 and six
years on back order!
Bleeding it is fun, too!
Best Regards,
Mike Arman
Cheers!
