Driveability IS a word--My word:)

Aaron--I was the guy that raised the issue of the drive
characteristics of a 300+ hp 4 cylinder. I have no doubt that such power
can be pulled from the motor [probably faaaaar more than 300], and I have
not driven the 1.8tq yet either. But, in my experience, when you make a
motor smaller and request more power from it, the power is almost always
found in higher rpms. In fact, it is not unusual for the power to be at
its peak at very near redline.

Trust me here, if you are ever given the choice between 300 bhp
at 3,500 - 4,000 rpm and 350 bhp at 6,500 - 7,000 rpm, take the lower
number at the lower rpm [unless of course you are racing the car]. High
rpm driving will get to be very unnerving on the many dates you will be
carrying in this car---now that you have landed that great job:)

Congrats on the job Aaron---go buy whatever the hell you like.
You won't always be able to rationalize the purchase:)
