It's entirely possible. My car ran poorly for a long time until I
changed the spark plugs and it wouldn't start again. After much
struggling I somehow had it running again and took it down to the
mechanic where they put it under the Official Bosch Tools for
diagnostics. Eventually they found a bad ground at the intake
manifold, which is used at the metering head to let the computer
richen the fuel mixture by a variable amount depending on the OXS
output. The car runs without it, but too lean.

Total cost in my case: a lot of stress, a lot of my time, a paid
afternoon of the shop's time, and $2 in parts. Not counting the ISV
and OXS and other things I replaced while trying to find the problem.

That's why I always tell people to clean up and recrimp that ground.
I used an AMP PIDG mil-spec nylon terminal. No problems since.
