87 CGT: Cruise Control Woes
I seem to be writing quite a bit lately. There's nothing terribly
wrong with the car *furious knocking of wood* but I'm a little anal
about it so everything has to be working properly or I lose sleep at
night.
I took a nice hour long highway trip the other night. Car ran
beautifully, tracked straight as an arrow at 90mph. Problem is, the
cruise control, which I knew wasn't 100 percent but at least worked,
cut out on me completely. No amount of pushing or pulling the switch
would cause it to engage.
I got it home and checked the fuse. It was fine. No leak in the
vacuum servo diaphram, I checked that too. Next comes endless tests
of the control unit harness connector. Problem is, I have no
multimeter. Does anyone have a recommendation as to which one to buy
and where I can get it? Is this a pretty standard piece of hardware
or is there vast differences in quality between manufacturers.
If there are any shortcuts anyone can give me about solving this
problem I'd be much obliged.
Jon
