Suspension Problem
I've been fighting a loud suspension related squeek in the rear of my
1990 200 Quattro for the past month. It sounded like the strut insert,
so I replaced them, but no dice. The new inserts improved the handling,
but I'd still like to get rid of the @#$%** squeek.
Anyway, it now sounds like the ball joint on the end of the transverse
link is making the noise. It is the rubber bushing on the end of the
transverse link that is held on with a bolt and nut that have 24 mm
heads (closest to the wheel). When I removed the bolt, I heard a squeek
that is the same as I get when rocking the car up and down.
Has anyone had this problem? If so, do I need to replace the entire
transverse link? The Bentley shows how to push in the rubber bushing,
but also says if the bushing is bad, to replace the entire ball joint.
Finally, where do I find one? The few parts lists that I have don't
list it.
Any ideas about this will be greatly appreciated.
