Bruce,
I'll take that bet! What... you already checked? Shucks.
Honestly, it wouldn't take too much work, depending on which
calipers you chose. I had a caliper from a 911 on my car briefly. It
bolted right onto the Audi strut. It was a little off-centre relative to
the rotor, and it didn't clear the wheel because the two outside pistons
stuck outboard too far. The first condition would have been easy to fix
with a very simple spacer. I am sure the pistons would fit now too with
my 16" wheels. In fact though, they did not increase the swept area at
all, so the only benefit that I could see was improved pedal feel from
having 4 pistons, instead of a sliding caliper. I also checked out Mazda
RX7 calipers (also very nice aluminum 4-pot units) and the C4 Corvette
calipers, but they both had less pad area than the Girling 60 calipers.
Now if you had a larger rotor made, and a bracket to move the caliper
outward, then you could improve your stopping distance.
