Re: Spark Plugs

In a message dated 97-04-23 19:59:24 EDT, you write:

<< I thought I remembered a while back that the net wisdom was to run the
$20/ea. Bosch Silbers rather than the $4/ea. Bosch Tri-electrodes if you
were in any sort of higher than stock boost application.

Has the concensus changed, or has the current discussion not been
delving into the aspects of high boost applications?

Ned puts this in his Tech Tip as well. The best is the FD5POR sidegap
platinum plug, which is different than the .99 k-mart Bosch W7DP top gap, by
about 19dollars. That is still considered the best. Problem, lots of us
have a hard time convincing someone to spend 80USD (discount) on a set of
plugs, so installing the close second is a no brainer, the WR7DTC triple
electrode copper. They are designed for miles. For B4B, go with the WR7DC
single coppers, they are better than the DP's at the same price. The F5's
really are the cats meow, those that run them don't even talk spark plugs,
moot point. I used to eat plugs at about 5-10k on my wild turbo cars. The
F5's have been in for over 30k with only a regap. At this rate I would
anticipate the plug to get close to the 80-100k mark.

Regarding spit-furs, if one was to look at the design of a sidegap triple
electrode copper, the spits are really a joke. Lots of marketing there, but
Eric's home grown split technique on a Bosch single copper can prolly give
you a better plug cheaper. That kind of money is better spent on the triple
coppers. Ned's Tech Tip is really a culmination of what WORKS. This doesn't
give you better mileage or great dyno numbers, just keeps the spark plug a
constant in a high perfomance app. Lots of folks get sold on plugs for a
variety of reasons, what whacks them on the head is a quick change of plugs,
and all the hi boost problems went away.

Steamboat was funny. Ned, me and a few others were scouring our toolboxes
for old triples to help a few that showed up with the DP's. Next year, I'll
bring a few sets.
