Re: Charges for QClub events-again
This thread has reappeared here every year. I am not here to defend Qclub or
anyone in it. Frankly, the problem with the event charges seems to be where
Jeff G is nosing around (National Support), not at the event level. I have
no problem with meeting fellow q heads at a Q event. I have been to the
others. Yes, there are cheaper, yes there "may" be better. But I have seen
few here, with all this talk of price, that even go to those, so what's the
point? Being the lone q at a cheaper but "other" mark event, to me, is
hardly worth a 100USD discount. Why? A few reasons. Q's are fun and can be
pretty quick, but hardly competitive against the Bimmers and Porsches that
run "cheaper". NOT without seriouso modifications, btdt. So, AFTER you
have all the instruction and the driving skill and the prepped car, shopping
price is great. But you still are the "outsider" with your hustling q, btdt.
At q club events, the amount of "non q" cars can be counted on one hand,
with 50+ cars in the event, THAT is not the case with the "cheapers", btdt2.
Learning to enjoy and drive the quattro advantage is only part of the
equation. Having a common interest and shared laughs and studied q lines,
that's where the qclub events come up right side.
I pesonally can't stand the politics of "car" organizations, btdtX3 with
SCCA. Now I see it at Qclub. Fine. It's a given unless someone changes it
(massive kudos to Mr. Goggin for the efforts). Or creates something better.
If there is this much talent and knowledge of costs and events and
structure, put up, man. I'll be the first to sign up and help instruction.
Haven't seen it here in three years. So silly me, I go bee boppin to q club
events, enjoying the comraderie and comiserating and instructing fellow q
enthusiasts understand their cars potential. I choose to ignore the
politics, and the egos, and manage to have a GREAT time. Few come away from
these events without a smile (save the 20vt owner of weekend last), and a
true feeling that there are others out there just as phyched on the
experience as well, from "newbies" to the "veterans".
Not sure the arguments couldn't last a lifetime. I have been to as many
events, q and otherwise, as anyone here. Someone (putting on an exclusive q
event) has to convince me, by something other than the keyboard, that this
can be better at a "significant" savings. From what I see here, there would
prolly be as much, if not more, of the same stuff we are pointing our fingers
at with the Qclub. I urge ANYONE to prove me wrong. Put up. I look at PNW
now after 2+ years "succeeded" and see and here the same issues that plagues
Qclub National. Let's not reinvent the wheel, hardly necessary, the
difference between Qclub events and the others, is hardly in execution.
Maybe in design; maybe. Talent and motivation can change that. The rest is
bitchin', by definition.
Looking forward to some good Qclub events, and some others, smiling,
laughing, instructing, and sharing the experience of track time. What this
is really all about. Haven't btdt? Ok, instead of the 2 events you "would"
do at 125, do 1 at 250. Then do 1 @ another marque for the 125, which one
was more fun? Then post up the experience from a btdt. The keyboard is an
interesting tool, no substitute however, for a well executed line.
