The joys of living near a crossroads (low Audi cont.)
Hi all,
This AM I was doing some home improvement with ladder and paintbrush. A
loud screeching sound nearly made me drop the brush. I live near a busy
crossroads, and witness peoples' poor grip of the traffic code on a daily
basis- both hits and near misses by the ton.
This however was something quite different- a '92 Mercury Sable GS 'wagon
(with the 'Christmas tree' front end) standing across the road
'splay-legged'- one front wheel pointing to the left, one pointing to the
right. The owner was frantically trying to get the car to go straight on,
but to no avail.
Not being too lazy to help out, I went out and crossed the road. The girl
behind the wheel obviously didn't know what was going on, and was getting a
bit nervous from the traffic behind her, sounding their horns and revving
their engines.
I signaled to the first one behind her to go over the kerb and move along,
while we tried to get the wheels to align and get the @#$% car into a free
parking space nearby. Inch by inch, the thing went backward, so she could
leave it and call her husband. I returned to my condo and picked up the
brush, and 15 mins later a flatbed truck arrived. The car was hoisted onto
the flatbed truck, but not easily- first some smoke appeared from behind
the cab (winch RIP), then a van arrived that hoisted the car onto the truck
with a tow rope- only to have one wheel go AWOL again, the car jumping off
the flatbed sideways and landing with a crash- on its side! Hmmm... by now
the girl was panicking, the tow truck guys were _extremely_ annoyed, not
the least by all the people that had gathered, all offering their comments.
With the aid of a large crane, they eventually managed to get the beast
upon the flatbed truck again. The entire righthand side was pushed in,
there was a large crease in the roof, nearly all glass was bust.
Some days it's better not to get up at all- just stay in bed. Everything
you do will go wrong anyway...
Mandatory Audi content: the second car to pass was a beautiful silver A4
1.8T Avant, slightly lowered, with RS2/Porsche Cup alloys and the Kamei RS
sport grill. Wow! Nice exhaust note...
