Help needed...

Well, this hasn't been my year. I'd like to solicit any advice
that anyone is willing to give. This one's desparate.

Last week, I was driving from work to a symphony rehearsal at
about 6pm. I was in the left lane, traffic was moderate, all
lanes moving at 60-65mph (i.e. I wasn't zipping past people).

I got a call on the car phone (gotta get that thing ripped out).
Literally 20 seconds later, the left lane turns into a carpool-only
lane during certain hours (4pm to 7pm). Just starting this
phone call, I of course forget to pull over into the middle
lane.

A minute later, I notice a trooper on the right shoulder, and
suddenly a light bulb goes off... I realize where I am. I pull
over, see him start to move, and I slow down and get all the
way right so he can catch up to me. Figured I'd make it easy
on the guy. He pulled me into the shoulder, I did everything I
knew how to do to make his job easier. Explained the mistake,
I wasn't trying to blow by traffic, etc.

Summons written.

I won't go into my past cruddy luck (of which some was certainly
my fault), but suffice to say that this ticket will cost me
upwards of 3 thousand dollars!

Has anyone had experience getting out of such a ticket? I mean,
it *was* an HOV violation, so I don't have a whole lot of hope.
Any ideas, however far-fetched, would be greatly appreciated!!
