BATTLE OF MUSCLE. AUDI 2.8L,BMW 5 SERIES AND MERCEDES E280
LET' BEGIN WITH BMW...
When BMW recently replaced their 2.5 litre six cylinder in some models
by a 2.8 litre unit their sales people must have breathed sigh of
relief. At least they had an engine no longer inferior to audi's 2.8
litre six cylinder in term of torque and flexibility.Presumably for
production reasons, however.this engines is not available the forme 5
series.wich maens that any BMW dealer who still have to sell old 5
series are stuck with the old 2.5 litre(142 kW/193 bhp)with its very
inadecuated torque particularly at low engine speeds. For the 2.8 litre
power unit is available only on the new models as one of the two
original launch engines. In meantime AUDI has already caught up with BMW
in this engine segment, once again ensuring that our competitor does not
remain in the lead:Our new 2.8 5v power unit has the same maximum output
as BMW's 2.8 litre and is equal on all important count relevant in
everyday motoring. One example is engine torque.Indeed.while the two
power unit have the same maximum torque.the Audi reaches this figure
earlier on at just 3200 rpm.And it offer 90 per cent of its maximum
torque throughout the entire speed range from 2500 to 5000 rpm.The
BMW,in turn, takes 3950 rpm to reach its maximum torque of 280 Nm or
206lb-ft.
