RE: Timing belt change on '92 100S

<
I know that the timing belt needs changed on my 100S at 60k. What is a fair
price to have this done? I currently have my car in the shop having an oil
leak fixed (head gasket) at Foreign Traffic, an Audi specialist in the
Pittsburgh area, and am thinking of having it done while it is in the shop.
Also, if anyone out there is from the Pittsburgh area, have they heard
anything about this Foreign Traffic place? If bad, are there any good
alternatives besides the dealers in the Pittsburgh area. Thanks.

Hi,

In my opinion, the cam belt should be changed when doing work on the head
anyway. The head will have to come off in order to change the gasket, to do
this, the old timing belt will also have to come off. I've never refitted a
timing belt, the possible consequences are too damaging to risk.

If the head is coming off, a new timing belt should only cost the price of
the part extra, as they would otherwise have to refit the old belt.

Even if the head was not comming off, I change my belts every 30k. The belt
costs very little, is fairly easy to fit, and will avoid a ruined engine.

Cheers,

Mike
