Misc. ramblings
Hi all,
Well, it turns out that the guy with the '97 Passat who lives near me is a
sales guy for a VAG dealer a few miles away... and as a consequence he
drives the nicest cars that can be found in the VAG stable. Last Friday, I
found myself staring at a *beautiful* silver A8 3.7q (yep- a quattro, here
in Holland! Costs about Dfl 170,000- $85K) with black leather, car phone,
etc. Gone when it was light again- so much for me wanting to take a
picture. Yesterday evening I found a dark blue metallic A4 2.6q parked in
front of my door. Wow! I must get to know this guy a little better and get
a few rides...
D&W '97 catalogue came in yesterday. Dfl 25 including shipping, but I had
to call three times to remind them to send it to me. I'd seen this
catalogue before, but didn't realize I had to wade through so many pages of
scantily clad ladies to get to the car accessories (no kidding- the car
parts start on page 114 of 885). Otherwise- a must if you're interested in
car goodies.
Some of you might remember me telling about the Dutch Motorshow in
February. I'd also had the opportunity to photograph Biela's A4q BTCC
racer, and was very excited about this. The last film roll (with the pics
of Biela's car) wasn't full, so I shot the last few pics a day or so later.
I had thrown the roll into the lower part of my console, thinking that was
a safe place for the trip home. When I got home however- no film. Searched
the whole car- no dice. I then discovered that the console was open in the
rear- just a flap of carpet in front of a large hole. So, last Thursday I
decided that it was time to rip the dash apart to look for this film. It
turned out to be not an easy task- the manual choke preventing me from
taking out the driver's side panel entirely, and the console refusing to
clear the handbrake. Well, of course there was no film behing the dash, so
I settled for fixing a few rattles and squeaks (successfully, I might add)
and connecting my radio properly. I then decided to take my seats out (easy
job, requires undoing one bolt) and- yes, there it was: my film. Pics
turned out fine, quality was none the worse for having been in my car for
two months. I will post the pics of Biela's car on my 'web pages soon (when
they're finished)
Sorry for the waste of bandwidth for those of you not interested-
Bye,
Tom
