Coupe GT, All Wheel....uh, DISCS!!!

I am joyful to report that my quest for rear disc brakes on my Coupe
has ended successfully. Kudos to Mike Tipton for guiding me along
this path with patient answers to lots and lots of questions.

Saturay afternoon I stopped by the dealer to pick up an emergency brake
cable and the e-brake "equalizer" (a.k.a. cable puller thingy). Since
this completed the parts I need for the conversion, AND I had a free
afternoon (well, I had things to do, but they could wait :), I decided
to begin surgery.

It all went pretty smoothly, actually. The biggest stumbling point was
getting the old e-brake cable off, removing the cable guides, and
re-installing them with the new cables. Dremels are wonderful inventions.

The donor axle I installed was from a 1988 Audi 90, with 114K miles on it.
The 90's emergency brakes wouldn't fit (anyone need a pair?), so I had
to get the 1987 Coupe GT cables and puller. I didn't have to change the
brake MC on my car, and I haven't noticed any problems or extra brake pedal
travel.

So, the brakes are working well. The pressure regulator on the old drum
setup was incorrectly set (I didn't re-adjust it when I installed the
Eibach lowering springs), so I cannot compare them to the disc brakes.
Still, the rear disc peeking through the multispoke Ronals looks pretty
cool. :-)

If anyone wants more info, I'll be more than happy to expound on my
achievement. ;-) Eventually I plan on writing it all down for my
Coupe Specs page.

Later,
Eric
