Watkins Glen Picnic??

Hi folks,
I was mulling over an idea the other day, and I'd like to gauge your
feedback on it. If there is sufficient interest, then I will start working on
the details.
Here it is... How about a nice Picnic/BBQ at my house after/during the Glen
event(s)? I live ~10min from the racetrack, up in the woods. Well, my folks do
anyway... We have a large backyard patio with an inground pool. Also, there is
a somewhat respectable tennis court up behind my house. There is a good 3-4mile
hiking loop through the woods as well.. We occassionally have a campfire as
well.. and nothing beats the unhibited view of the night-sky... With a slight
amount of cajoling, I should be able to convince my Mother to prepare the BBQ..
which means some of the best cookin' I've ever been privledged to.
If people want to work on their cars in the driveway.. there are the
standard tools.. and a large assortment of strange and unusual garage-stuff
lying about. I think Pops bought some bright Halogen work lights last year.. so
if it comes to bear, work could even be done in the dark. It might be easier to
work on stuff in my driveway then in a parkinglot somewhere.

Idea (2): We used to own a small (24 unit) motel ~20 minutes from the track.
However, we recently sold it. The arrangements of the sale may give us the
opportunity to get rooms at a substantial discount. The place is a very
discount motel, but it is clean and it has been remodeled extensively in the
past three years by my father. There is a restaurant/bar, by the same name as
our old motel, across the parking lot from it. I'm fairly certain I could get
some rooms there for you guys (and gals) for next to nothing.. Oh yeah, each
room has microwave and 'fridge.. cable, AC,...etc...
If the BBQ/Picnic doesn't work out, I can probably still swing the motel thing.

There are a few details to work out, but let me gauge your response first. If
people are interested.. I'll start making calls and see what I can do. Oh, and
I just realized something, I don't have the date for the glen. If somebody
could fill me in on that one.. thanks!

At the very least, I would be glad to provide information on the Watkins Glen
area.. places to eat, places to stay, things to do.. Things to AVOID...
etc..
This list has helped me in so many ways.. I'd like to reciprocate a little if
possible. The Glen might give me an opportunity to do so.
