Re: Rim of the World?
When I left the rim at the dinner break, before the end of the
national competition (divisional didn't run saturday night),
The word was that Choinere had finninshed one stage with only
three wheels on the car, so he may not have won it. he was
confortably and confidently leading earlier in the day.
In the quattro's Rui Brasil, now running national was a DNF.
he tryed to JB weld a hole in his head (the engine!), and
thrashed to get the machine together before the restart, but it
blew water upon restart. He wan rather dissapointed.
Ron Wood ran into some flat tire problems friday night, and
was pretty far back in the standings for saturday. He had
a bent and sticking strut on saturday, and ended the race with
a cracked turbo housing, but still pulling 18 psi boost !?!
The suspension had unstuck near the end and he was driving
nearly at speed for the last few stages.
I met the Nelson's, running their 323 GTX. They were running for
the finnish only, to qualify for national events. The S2 is due
to be running later in the season, maybe?
Frank Bauer and I ran our cars up Angeles Forrest Hiway
toward Mt. Gleason between the action and played tag with a Volvo
turbo. I was suprized how Franks EuroAvant 10V did in the twisties.
Very fun, quite fast.
Ed Kellog was also presnt, it was nice to meet up with him, and we
watched from the spectator area together. It was a slow twisty,
powdery section, where maintaining speed through the corners was
essential to keep from bogging down. The lower power cars were
almost stopping at one point.
That's all I havefor now. Results may be avialable on the web site.
I vowed to be on the other side of the fence next year. Watching
the spectators fly by.
