Presumably we're talking about the dwell angle of the ISV. The amount of
air through this along with the amount of air passed through the throttle
and the throttle bypass determines the engine speed.

If the throttle closed position is incorrect, or if the throttle bypass
regulating screw (large brass screw in throtle body - prone to gradually
unscrewing itself due to rubber o-ring perishing) is not adjusted correctly,
the ISV has to correct for it - this causes the dwell angle to differ from
that recommended.

Try adjusting the throttle bypass regulating screw (often shown in Haynes
manual pictures and marked as do not adjust). This will alter the ISV dwell
angle. The throttle closed position usually does not need adjusting unless
you have dismantled the throttle assembly in the past.

The ISV controller acts on information from the following - engine speed
(from primary side of coil), engine temp (increases idle when engine very
cold), throttle closed switch (no ISV action unless foot off throttle).

Yes

As is my parts Avant.

Could be.

I think I'll buy one - after such unequivocal recommendations from you and
Phil, I can't go wrong - preumably Halfords will have it?

>P.S. Anybody know of any independent Mitsubishi Owner Clubs, US or UK?

Other car clubs are hard to find - I tried to find a Vauxhall/Opel one with
no success.
