Re: better braking for the 90

I just have some advice for you out there looking to do a brake upgrade.
The best thing to do is to upgrade to Brembo 4 pot calipers and Brembo rotors.
I am thinking of getting new calipers or getting mine rebuilt. Going with the
4 piston calipers may require more work though....like bigger MC, working out
brake bias, etc, but I know many people have done it, so it can be done. Just
get some advice before you do this.

I want to warn y'all that I do NOT reccomend any carbon-fiber or carbon-
metallic type high performance pads for street use. They are great for the tra
ck, but IMHO, they are awful street pads! I have Cool Carbons on my 5ktq right
now and I now have to replace the rotors after 6 mos of street use with them!
I am going to pull them off and put on some Ferodos (or other OEM equivelent)
pads and I am getting some cross-drilled rotors. I highly reccomend the factor
y pads for street use! Honestly, niether I nor my mechanic have found a better
set of pads for street use. Metal Masters aren't too bad either, but they don'
t seem to work well on the track.

I just thought I'd let y'all know this since I have already shelled out
the ~$250 for Cool Carbons and tried them for 6 months. They are loud, produce
a lot of brake dust (which will destroy wheel finishes!) and they eat rotors
for breakfast!

Also, steel braided brake lines will help improve pedal feel a lot and I
know a lot of listers have these on thier cars. The old OEM rubber lines tend
to get stretched out with age. If you do get SS braided lines, make sure they
are DOT approved though! Good luck to all. I'd like to hear about what is inv
olved in the conversion to 4 piston calipers on these cars from those of you
who have done this though... Anyone?

                                                            Later,
