Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
Hello fellow Q-Listers. I am the happy new owner of an '86 5KCSTQ. I took
the advice of a few of you, liked the look and bought the car. It is:
A red/black leather 5000CS Turbo Quattro. 88,500 miles. It has a new
stainless steel exhaust, new clutch and power steering pump, and a new
alternator. Everything (well, almost, see below) on the car works, from the
large to the small. Good paint, good interior (one small split on driver's
seat bolster). Even the outside temperature monitor is accurate!
I cannot believe how good this car feels to drive. 80-100 mph feels like you
could get out and walk! The steering is laser sharp and the body control in
corners is excellent. I think soon I'll go for the Intended Accelleration
chip mods. Otherwise the car needs nothing except for a set of nice tires.
I'm thinking Yokohama AVS Intermediates.
The car has the Audi 5-spoke wheels with body-color spokes and a mild body
kit with rear spoiler and small side skirts.
I cannot find anything wrong with the car except the following. I hope
someone can point me in the right direction:
The engine cooling fan does not come on automatically when the engine is off.
If you turn the key (without firing the engine), the fan kicks in shortly
after shutting the car off (engine hot), but it doesn't cycle like I've come
to expect from other TQs when the key is off. Also, I was somewhat concerned
that the injector cooling fan doesn't seem to switch on either.
What could be the cause of this problem? A bad relay? A bad sensor? Which
one?
Otherwise the car is wonderful and I am excited beyond belief. It is truly a
superior automobile to anything else I've driven.
I paid $3800. I thought this was a fair deal considering the new parts on
the car and the mileage.
Please respond with comments and suggestions!
Thanks,
Alex.
