So I'm not the only one who thought might do something for the sound and
performance- did the same exh removal on my 5kcst and drove it like that
for a few days. It was indeed not much louder- but far, far deeper. so
deep, in fact, that it would set off car alarms as I went through the
gears! One memorable time, I had just finished lunch with a friend who's
into Chevy 454s and other such silliness. He stayed long enough for me to
note his eyes bug out when I wound up 1st gear and his truck's Clifford
started screaming. He later said it was the best-sounding import he's
heard. I however think this mod does something negative- didn't have time
to time it, but it seemed slower, esp at takeoff? Replacing the pipe with
a 2.5 inch straight pipe w/o rear muffler terminating in an Ansa tip
squelched the deep resonance, but preserved the pleasing change of tone
that seems endemic to the 5. Returned the bottom end, seat-of-the-pants
wise.
