ignition switch & steering lock Audi 90
Fellow Q members
Recently I had following problem.
Ignition switch on my 1991 Audi 90 failed so I bought a new one.
During the installation of the switch I noticed the pin sticking out from
key lock barrel was also broken. Since I could not take it apart I took
it to dealer for repair.
Originaly I was quoted 1hour labour plus parts for repairing the broken
pin.
The car was at the dealer for two days, because he had to wait for
steering lock to be delivered and mechanics had some difficulties to
putting it all together, so they had to call in a locksmith . In total it
cost me bit over AUD$530.
I have asked for replaced parts (ignition lock barrel, pin, steering
wheel lock) and I can not see anything wrong with the steering wheel
lock. What should I be looking for?
Do all the components have to be replaced when the simple pin breaks?
Should I be able to get the pin just by itself? Certainly it would be
cheaper.
Regards
Mark
