90 20V newbie
I purchased a 1990 90Q 20V on Saturday and have a few questions:
1) Service manuals: appears to be two varieties, one by Bentley and one
by Audi. True? If so, which is superior?
2) Brakes/wheels: Mine has 195 x 14 on BBS. Magazine tests cars had
205 x 15 on Speedline. Was this a specified option? Does wheel size
designate one brake size/type? Are the recent queries regarding brake
improvement specific to the smaller brakes?
3) Clutch engagement: The clutch engages through a very short stroke
length of the pedal, near the top of the pedal's stroke. Aside from
getting used to it, which with the peaky engine makes for non-chauffeur
smooth starts, should I be concerned, i.e. is this normal? There is no
evidence of slippage or stuttering from flywheel burns, mostly just new
car paranoia!
I should also add that if it wasn't for this list, I wouldn't have
learned to seek this wonderful car or have found the example which I
purchased. Steve Watson, a friend of the seller, Joe Thompson,
contacted me due to a "car wanted" advertisement which I placed in the
Quattro classified webpage. Steve also looked over the car for me. The
car was in Chattanooga, me in Seattle. I flew out over the weekend. It
was all that I'd been told, and with mileage and a price never seen in
the NW! If anybody sees a Tornado Red 20V on a carrier truck headed
west....
Thanks Steve, Joe, and all on the list.
