Re: tires for a 4kcsq
Okay, I'll toss in my .02 worth about RE-71's and 4kq's. When I bought my
first 4kq new back in '87 it had Dunlop somethings (old D60's???) which were
utter garbage! I hated 'em and wore them out as soon as I could (which wasn't
too tough-they cupped badly). Back then I too loved P6's and ran them on my
911S...not great for overall grip, but very predictable which is what you
want on that tail wagger. I put RE-71's on that 4kq and the car was literaly
transformed into another league...it was a very nice handling car before (on
par with the 911). With the RE-71's (in 195/60/14 size) that 4kq was the best
handling car I have ever owned...in fact only the 5ktq wagon (on gatorbacks)
came close (both buried the 911 in real-world handling). The only reason I
stopped buying RE-71's is they got very pricey in the late 80's/early 90's
(they crested at about $110.00 mail order in the 4kq size!). For $82.00 per
they are a great deal!!!! "Old technology"? Perhaps so...but then the same
could be said about a 4kq and they are a great pair together. I strongly
reccomend them if great performance is your tire buying criteria for your
4kq.
