If the shocks are as bad as you say they are you are probably feeling your
tire bouncing on the pavement.  Since the shock is dead there is nothing
controlling the springs allowing the tire to bounce up and down at a quick
enough rate to feel like shaking.   I am assuming that the rest of your
suspension isn't in tip top shape so all the play associated with worn
components simply exacerbates the problem...

Yes it does.  These are probably worn out as well and will keep the strut
from fitting tightly against the shock tower of the car.
