Just read your post after posting mine.
Agree with you entirely! My wife insisted on the slushbox (its her car 
after all) and I have found that with the adaptive Auto transmission, 
after I start the car and get it warm I keep up the revs, kickdown 
frequently and find that the car is much more responsive during a 
drive. I find response off the line not too bad either - brake 
torqueing works well with the 2.8 and quattro :-)
