Hmmmm... It seems to this ol' boy that that statement is pretty independent
of cost.  "Sports cars," having only very limited accomodations for anyone
other than the necessary minimum in the form of a driver, fail most tests
for "transport usefulness," wouldn't you say?

Of course, a couple of minor exceptions come to mind, the 911 and McLaren.
The former for obvious reasons, the later for it's three person capacity...

Oooops, a random firing of one of my two remaining synapses resurrects the
memory of a double-date, riding in the *back* "seats" of a 356 on a
white-knuckle run through the streets of Kowloon one night...
