Followup: Mechanic wants $700 to replace throw-out bearing (?)
I took my 85 4000S Quattro to a shop to have the clutch noise
looked at. They agreed with my assessment that it was the
throw-out bearing, and say that since it is basically a clutch
job it will run $700 parts and labor.
They also recommended the following:
starter noisy - replace $400
right outer CV joint boot split - replace $184
So, is this a reasonable amount for the bearing job?
I think I'll do the starter myself. The boot I just don't know -
the last time I took off the axle, and brought it to a shop which
charged around $100 to replace the boot (my part).
How do these prices sound overall? As they were recommended by
someone on the list, I expect their work is decent anyway!
Thank you for any commants!
