Cooling System Pressure Question

Folks,
 After my expensive repairs I have been somewhat worried about my cooling   
system.  Under how much pressure should the top hose (radiator to block)   
be?  In most 'Murican cars they remain fairly compliant (squishy); when   
the car runns now the hose is very stiff.  I have gambled a couple times   
and lossened the overflow tank cap to release pressure; but should I be   
looking for another problem?  I am planning to do a complete flush and   
fill here in a week to completely change out the old stuff; and will be   
using Dexcool.  Is there an actual system capacity volume like there is   
for oil?  I'm just trying to avoid blowing something else apart.
 The car is running even better with new plugs, and a freshly adjusted   
mixture; start very smooth now and idles clean.  Yippee!
