The new A4 Cabriolet
Hi all,
Some more news on the proposed A4-based Cabriolet: it's not gonna happen
for a long time! The current Cabrio will continue until Autumn 1999 (by
which time it will be an utter joke, if it isn't already) to be replaced by
the A4-based car in the new millennium. I can only hope that it will be
well-engineered...
The Cabriolet will be built on a strengthened full-size floor pan of the
A4, giving lots of space in the cabin and a decent-sized trunk. It will be
available with a V6 TDI engine and there will even be an S4 quattro
version! If it will look anything like the artist's impression in this
month's Auto Zeitung, it will be great!
Has VAG learnt nothing from the comments they got about keeping the Mk1
Golf Cabriolet until the Mk3 Golf was on the market for years? Seeing the
current Audi Cabriolet in the model line-up, it looks anachronistic
already, and will do so even more by 2000. Why bother keeping it in
production- no-one will buy it!
Bye,
Tom
PS This month's 'mot auto technik' magazine includes a preview video of the
new A6. Looks like they took an Audi promotional video and did a voice-over
(at times drowned out by the loud music). Very nice car, impressive
features. I'm looking forward to driving one- albeit with the sports
suspension and (hopefully) proper tyres.
