Tyre size question

Hi all,

I've a strange question on tyre/rim sizes. Everyone always wants to go up a
few sizes, and I want to go down. My current tyres are 185s, stock was 175.
My car has no power steering, and effort needed for parallel parking is
high already, especially when the tyres start wearing out. I do however
want alloy wheels instead of the butt-ugly plastic hubcaps on my car, and
am looking for a set of OE 'aero' type currently. These are 6Jx14 and are
fitted with 195s as standard. My question is: would my 185s fit these
wheels, not look stupid, not be dangerously loose, etc? I'd need steroids
for 195s!
Besides, I'm not sure if 195s give me better roadholding- which is good
enough for the power (not to mention stock underpinnings of the car in
question).

Any opinions on this subject?

TIA,

Tom

PS Wonderful weather here- 30 C is really extremely high for the time of
the year. All the rich kids come out to play with their BMW Z3s, Boxsters,
MB SLKs and Audi Cabrios (OK, those are the richer no-so-young). Lots of
nice classics on the road, too!
