90q factory alarm

According to the manual that came with my (new to me) 90q20v, all US models
are supposed to have a factory alarm.  Is this correct?  There is no quick
honk to inform me that the alarm has been set when I lock the doors.  It
seems a bit odd that a car like this would not have a security system.  Is
there a way to know for sure if one exists on my car?
