86 4kcsq Won't Start, Sits Over Night, Will

I sent a message out a couple of days ago regarding the fact that my car died
and wouldn't start again with no power at the fuel pump.. Well, after
 sitting over night, twice, it started on both mornings but if left to sit
for awhile again, it didn't.

This is getting a bit strange, and I had a suggestion that it might be the
potentiometer, so I am trying to get that checked out today.  

Does anyone out there have any other suggestions or similar experiences with
this?  

All help is greatly appreciated because until I get my quattro fixed I've got
to drive my girlfriends Golf!
