Yes, the '87 Coupe GT switched engines during production in 2/87.  There
were '87 Coupes with the digital dash and 2226cc engine.  The 2.3L has
more HP, yes, but is also an interfering engine, so you have to be more
careful with the timing belt.

Certain Coupe model years are a mish-mash of various parts, so I don't know
for sure if any '87 Coupes came with the analog dash (perhaps early '87 builds
used some leftover '86 analog dashes, or perhaps the '86 switched over to
purely digital late in the model year if they ran out of analog dashes).
