quattro fuel suckage (was Re: A4 30valve 2.8...)

When inquiring on how my father can reduce his 1.8tq RPMs at highway speeds,
Ivor at Tap emailed that the A4 quattro has a different final drive than
the FWD version, to improve its 0-60 time (3.89 quattro vs. 3.7 FWD). 
Perhaps this is why the quattros consume more fuel, compared to their FWD
brethren??
