Bomb Question?
This is a long shot, but if you haven't changed your brake fluid every
couple of years, the high moisture content coupled with the high temps
can cause boiling. The resulting gas bubbles compress easily and can
cause the "mushy pedal" you experienced. Also good to check for dragging
calipers as a cause of excess heat. Cylinder or piston pitting can
come from the same moisture. The problem kind of builds on itself.
