a/c on 84 4kq
Here's an interesting one, applies mostly to 84 owners.
Off the compressor, there is a black wire. This wire connects
to two green/yellow wires via a plastic connector. One of the
wires disappears into the harness. The other green/yellow
wire goes to a small connector where it meets a brown wire.
The brown wire has continuity to ground, the green/yellow has
no voltage. If I jump the loose green/yellow wire to the battery,
the compressor runs.
Question... when we put the engine from an 86 into my 84, did we
forget to connect this connector to where it meets some other
wire, or might it be different on the 86? I looked at my 85
and could not follow the wires since they are in the harness.
So, 84 owners, check behind your right front headlights and see
if you can find this 2 wire connector (with black rubber boot)
hanging, one brown wire, one green/yellow.
Worst case I can jump this wire to the a/c switch, but I suspect
that will bypass all the lo/high pressure switches. The car
also has no freon, so it is possible that this connector is
just a spare and that the compressor is not running because
there is no pressure.
