I can see absolutely no reason why a large intercooler should result in 
_any_ problems for the pistons.The actual crown temperature will vary little 
with a bigger intercooler.The gains are with increased _charge_ density,and 
the reduction in onset of detonation due to the lowered charge temperature.

Even water injection will not result in any temperature related failure of 
the pistons,although done to ludicrous excess,an hydraulic lock wouldn't do 
them a power of good :-)
