coolant loss problems

Hi,

I just resubscribed and saw this coolant problem thread in the middle.
Listen to what Phil says about having the coolant reservoir cap checked for
proper release. The alternative is that your head might warp enough to let
your engine start drinking coolant and it's not even denatured. You'll have
to have the head milled and overhauled if that happens and everything
downstream of the cylinders will forever after be suspect. I ruined a cat
converter by being half asleep and shutting down my engine when the pressure
cap blew. Instead I should have forced the engine to run and fed it coolant
but wasn't thinking due to lack of sleep. Ultimate cost was unable to
calculate in cost of ownership but out of pocket USD was over $4,000 in
yesterdays money...

Get the cap checked. If it's okay, get your system cleaned out, even rodded
out if that's possible with your radiator, then put in a safe mixture of
coolant. I recommend using distilled water with ethylene glycol, preferably
your favorite brand that is phosphate free.

Good luck.

Cheers!
