with the bolt in the bell housing locking the flywheel in place. Once
the crank pulley bolt was loosened it could be snugged to the point
where a mere mortal could loosen it ... the engine set to the proper
TDC, bolt removed, belt replaced and pulley reinstalled and everything
lined up with the crank pulley bolt tightened as much as practical ...
then spin everything back around to where the bolt could be put back
into the flywheel and the crank pulley bolt torqued to spec.
I don't know how big a hole there is in the bellhousing & flywheel, but
I sure hope that 300+ ft-lbs doesn't shear the thing! I'm glad I have a
VW 2079/2084 [or whatever!]
